The eclectic-style building was opened in 1894 to be the first Railway Station of Ponta Grossa. It was used for passengers’ departure and landing, as well as load transportation.

In 1906, after the construction of the third building, the station started to serve as the administrative headquarter until the 70’s, when the rail tracks were removed from the central area of the city.

The building is protected by Paraná Cultural Heritage. Its importance is related to its architectural beauty and also for inaugurating the rail transportation in the region. With the removal of the rail tracks from the middle of the city, the station was closed. In 1995, Ponta Grossa Memory House was inaugurated in the building.

Nowadays the place houses expositions and is used to the preservation of historic- documental archives of the city of Ponta Grossa and its surroundings. It shelters the largest part of the old archives of the city, such as newspapers from the beginning of the

20th century, documents, photographs, biographies, researches about houses and buildings of historic value. Also, it is a research center for the local history of Campos Gerais region.
